Wondering what you should do over the long weekend? Thinking of going out but not quite sure of where to head to? Well fret not, EasyRates has found the 4 things you’ve gotta do over the labour day weekend!

Visit The Istana And Meet The President (Labor Day)

Only open on special occasions, the Istana is an Icon of Singapore that most Singaporeans have never visited. With guided tours (Guided Nature walks from 10am – 4pm and Istana main building tours from 9am – 3pm) and a new mobile app (IPhone App link, Android App link) for those who want the convenience to tour the Istana garden grounds on their own time, learning more about this Singaporean Icon has never been more convenient.

Alongside the guided tours, a slew of events have been organized including performances and even a snake display by the Singapore Zoo. Of course the big draw will be the chance to meet President Tony Tan on the grounds.

Cost: Free entry to the Istana grounds for Singaporeans and PRs, $2 for foreigners.
Guided tours are $2 – 4/ Tour for Singaporeans and $2 – $10 for foreigners
Entry to the Istanta Main Building is $2 for Singaporeans and $2 – $4 for foreigners

Pig Out Old School Style at the National Museum

In Singapore, food is king, and eating may just be our national pastime. This weekend, pig out 1960s style at the 1960s street food culture event at the front lawn of the National Museum. The event aptly named “A Taste of Heritage: will feature popular local dishes and live performances, as you learn more about the traditional recipes behind various stalls and the intriguing family stories behind them. Its food, its history, its foodstory!

Cost: Free Entry to National Museum Front Lawn, Food prices will apply though

Happening: 29th – 30th April (Friday to Saturday) starting at 6pm

Use the Force as Singapore celebrates Star Wars Day

Star Wars Day (Carried forward from 4th May – So we can make punny jokes and say “May the 4th be with you”) celebrations in Singapore will be brought forward and take place over the long weekend instead. Star Wars fans can look forward to appearances by the local branch of the 501st Legion (A group of fans who cosplay as star wars characters) and kids can enjoy the thrill of learning how to wield a light saber, thanks to the FightSaber team.

Soak up the carnival atmosphere and dance the night away with Urban Ventures

Urban ventures returns again to Keong Saik Road, with interactive installations, art performances and a variety of workshops ranging from public Yoga sessions to K-Kardio dance sessions. Unleash your inner artist with hands on painting sessions and join the awesomely named “Silence Experiments” that run once an hour starting at 6pm and ending at 8pm.

A DJ set party will transform the street to a dance floor starting at 9pm, and the party will continue even after it’s 10.30pm slated end time, with an after party at a private space on Jiak Chuan Road.
