Valentines day may be long over, but romance is year round. So what is a cash strapped boyfriend to do? For some awesome date ideas look at our suggestions below!

1)      Watch a free movie under the stars with MovieMob

Why spend good money at a movie theater this weekend when you can watch a movie for free! Movie Mob has been holding free outdoor movie screenings in Singapore at various locations around the island for some time and will be hosting screenings of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Zootopia this weekend!

Bring a picnic mat to lay on the ground and perhaps some snacks for those of you who are prone to a case of the munchies and be prepared to come a bit earlier to chope some prime space.

2)      Cycle Through Kampongs And Nature At Pulau Ubin

Probably one of the last places where you can get a taste of what kampong life felt like in Singapore, Pulau Ubin is a great place to spend a day cycling. Get up close and personal – though not too close – with wild monkeys and boars that roam the island freely and visit Chek Jawa and enjoy the biodiversity therein.

As an additional bonus, if you’re lucky you may find wild durians on the ground during different times of the year. Note that Pulau Ubin is not for the extremely faint of heart, as getting around often means cycling through rough terrain and even getting to the island requires that you take a bumboat, which may cause some seasickness.

Cost: $5 For the bumboat ride to and from Pulau Ubin, bicycle rental costs $3 or more

3)      Get All Historical With Free Entry To Museums

Learn more about your Singaporean roots in a comfortable air conditioned environment as you visit the many museums in Singapore. Although almost all of our museums can be said to be pretty Instagram-worthy, for that ever so quaint and colonial shot, do check out the National Gallery, housed in the old City Hall and Supreme Court building.

For those who want to learn more about Singapore, simply take a trip to the National Museum where you’ll find exhibits on every period in Modern Singaporean history, with bits of Singaporean history scattered about, including a fragment of the fabled Singapore Stone and footage of perhaps the most famous historical moment in Singaporean television history, the moment that Mr. Lee Kuan Yew teared on air as he talked about Singaporean independence.

Cost: Free

4)      Groove To Free Live Music At The Esplanade

Looking for something a little bit more relaxing? Why not take a stroll through esplanade park, enjoy the views atop the roof garden at the Esplanade and listen to great live performances at the Outdoor Theatre?

With great bands playing almost every weekend and a slew of other free performances available, what are you waiting for?

Cost: Free

5)      Attend A Free Class Together!

Couples with a lifelong learning bent can consider taking a fun class together, though most people don’t realize it, there a string of free classes available in Singapore for everything from leather working to mediation and even investing.

Where can you find these awesome courses? One great place to find them is the GoLibrary program hosted by the National Library Board (Click here for more details) or alternatively you could search Eventbrite for free courses (Click here for more details).

Cost: Free
